This study aims to find out the characteristics of the revitalization plans, management policy for the conservation and restoration of the Pullman, the first company town in the U.S. The management strategies is that Pullman has been multi-designated as National Historic Landmark District, State Historic Site and Chicago Landmark District according to the importance of conservation. This means that the Pullman is regarded as the very valuable area and according to the Landmark Ordinance, the incentives, regulations and others have been managed efficiently. The characteristics of the citizen participation is that the design guideline for the architecture have been managed by the civic organization. Lots of residents have been participating in the civic organizations to improve the conservation activities. They have been involved in education, research and other services to foster the professional skills and the community spirit. The revitalization plans of Pullman has been focused on the conservation of the 19th century landscape and architecture characteristics, and the restoration landscape spaces can be extended to be interconnected with the green environs of the city. Second, the outdated landmark buildings will be renovated as public facilities and this has brought about the community activation. Third, the landmark buildings can be utilized as cultural institutions for tourism, and the streets can be restructured for industrial infrastructure, sightseeing and resident. Finally, the main projects will establish the responsibilities through arrangements with the related offices, and contribute to heightening the successful potentiality of the plan.
