Challenges and Opportunities for Teaching in Environmental Science and Engineering in the Age of Big Data

With the rapid development of information communication technology(e.g.cloud computing and petascale storage),the development of society and the living of people have witnessed an unprecedented shock of big data.It is important for front-line teachers to handle the challenges and opportunities of big data for environmental science and engineering as an emerging discipline.In this paper,concept and characterization of big data were introduced;impacts of big data on the teaching of environmental science and engineering were discussed;the frontier of teaching contents was enhanced;the reform of teaching methods was pushed;and the personalized teaching system was developed.
