Narrow-deep feature recognition in mould

There usually exist narrow--deep areas in mould need to be machined in special machining. To identify the narrow-deep areas automatically, a narrow-deep feature (NF) recognition method in mould is proposed. Firstly, Feature hint is extracted from the mould by making use of the characteristic of narrow-deep feature. Then the elementary constituent faces (ECF) of a feature are found starting from the feature hint. The ECF is extended, clipped and the feature faces are obtained incrementally by geometric reasoning. Finally, basic narrow-deep features (BNF) related are combined heuristically. The proposed NF recognition approach provides an intelligent connection between CAD and CAPP for machining narrow-deep areas in mould in special machining.
