Hydroxyapatite nanoparticle-strengthened bioactive glass nanofibres

In this reported study, hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticle-contained bioactive glass (BG) nanofibres with an average diameter of 500 nm have been prepared by combining a sol-gel method and an electrospinning technique. The mechanical property of the as-prepared fibres demonstrated that the HA-BG nanofibres had far higher mechanical strength than pure BG nanofibres, and the in vitro simulated body fluid immersion experiment verified that the growth rate of the hydroxycarbonate apatite nanocrystals on HA-BG nanofibre surfaces was the same with pure BG nanofibres.
