A power converting apparatus of a distributed generation system and a switching method using the same are provided to reduce manufacturing time and cost by using a general module type power device. A power converting apparatus of a distributed generation system includes a power converter(100), and a controller(200). The power converter(100) includes a power converting unit(110) composed of an inverter(111) and a booster-charger which charges or discharges a battery(B), a capacitor(120) removing the switching harmonics of the inverter(111), a capacitor switch(130) switching the output of the capacitor(120), an inverter switch(131) switching the output of the inverter(111), a power switch(132) cutting off a system power, a voltage sensor(140) detecting the output voltage of the inverter(111), a current sensor(150) detecting the output current of the inverter(111), and a system voltage detecting unit(160) detecting the voltage of a power system. The controller(200) includes a PLL(Phase Locked Loop) unit(210) detecting the phase of voltage, a current controlling unit(220) outputting a current controlling value, a voltage controlling unit(230) outputting a voltage controlling value, a driving detecting unit(240) determining as system connected driving or independent driving, a switching unit(250) generating the gate pulse of the inverter(11) by using the current controlling value and the voltage controlling value, and an error determining unit(260) determining the error of the power converting unit(110), a booster, a charger-battery, and the inverter(111).
