Design and Experimental Research on Intelligent Household Assistive Robot for the Elderly

It has researched and developed the assistive robot for the elderly and its control system. The whole unit is wheeled mobile with mechanical arms that are of triple degree of freedom structure, with its terminal actuator fixed and connected thereon. There is SMS module, SD card module, MP3 and radio broadcast module, heart rate sensor, CO sensor, temperature and moisture sensor and illumination sensor on the car in order to effectively assist the elderly. The infrared tube location and ultrasonic transducer are applied to realize obstacle avoidance. This software is based on IDE development environment, robot control algorithm, through Arduino Mega 2560 serial port communication to realize the control on the mechanical arm and the sensors. The reasonability and effectiveness of this design have been verified in the experimental test on its color recognition and capture by the sample machine in the lab.
