Procedural Fundamentals of Experimental Research in Sonar

Sonar experiments can be conducted at qualitative and quantitative levels. In qualitative experiments the researcher obtains a certain characteristic of the hydro-acoustic signal for which the measurement accuracy is unknown. Nor, consequently, does he know its relationship to the true characteristic. In this case the main goal of the experiment is to establish a particular property for the object of research (for example, to establish that the object of detection moves, that scattering off of irregularities is occurring and that its intensity exceeds that of noise occurring naturally, that there is an echo signal in the input process, etc.).
