Predictive safety systems

Both airbags and seat belt tensioners contribute significantly to the enhancement of passive safety in modern vehicles. While these systems are able to mitigate accidents, active safety systems like ABS, the electronic stability program ESP and the hydraulic brake assist system HBA can help the driver to avoid accidents in critical situations. Automotive engineers can further improve the effect of the currently available active and passive safety systems by including information about the vehicle’s environment. The earlier the systems can detect a potential accident, the more effectively they can fulfill their task. An article of the Robert Bosch GmbH.
