Measurements of 63Cu(n,2n)62Cu and 27Al(n,p)27Mg reaction cross sections for 12.9-15.9 MeV neutrons

63Cu(n,2n)62Cu and 27Al(n,p)27Mg reaction cross sections were measured in the 12.9-15.9 MeV energy region under improved experimental conditions to resolve the discrepancies in the published data. The experimental procedures included irradiation in a low neutron scattering environment and the use of the concentric ring technique for fast-neutron monitoring. A consistency between the results obtained using a Dynamitron and Van de Graaff particle accelerators is reported. Comparison of the experimental results with statistical-model calculations indicate that the 63Cu(n,2n)62Cu reaction proceeds predominantly by compound nucleus formation. A direct interaction contribution must be included for the 27Al(n,p)27Mg reaction.
