40 Gbit/s transmission and cascaded all-optical wavelength conversion over 1000000 km

A transmission span of 4/spl times/100 km followed by an all-optical wavelength converter is cascaded 2500 times. Thereby transmission of a 40 Gbit/s signal over a total distance of 1000000 km is demonstrated.
