Comparative Study of Reduced Order Model for Two and Three Area Interconnected Wind Turbines

Conventional non-renewable electrical energy production has become an increasing concern due to its high costs, limited resources, and negative impacts. Scientists have begun to focus their research on renewable energy sources. Renewable energy is generally a clean source of supplying electrical loads, especially in remote and rural areas. Wind energy is one of the most commonly and rapidly growing renewable energy sources. This paper proposes two area and three area models of wind turbine systems connected as a new source of energy and their simulated models using a Simulink toolbox under Matlab. Also two reduced order models for each one are proposed using model order formulation technique (MOFT). These reduced order models are tested and their responses compared to the original models and proved a better performance. These models are compared with the reduced models using MATLAB code and the results show better performance of the proposed reduced models using MOFT over those using MATLAB code.
