Objective To investigate the effect of lentinan on visceral organs in subchronic radiation-injured mice. Methods Mice were exposed to γ-ray for 40 days while injected with lentinan. The protective effect of lentinan against damage of irradiation was observed by sections of HE.The content of superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px),malondialdehyde(MDA) of the liver was analyzed by kits. The number of WBC and bone marrow karyotes, content of ALT and AST,colony-forming unit of spleen(CFU-S),and visceral organ index were measured. Results There were no obvious changes in the body surface except for some mice who lost hair. The model group mice grew quickly in the first ten days. The injury to the liver, lung, spleen from the model group was more serious than in SPLE and LPLE group.Furthermore, there was statistically sighificant difference(P0.05) between the model group and lentinan group in the number of WBC and bone marrow karyotes, the content of ALT and AST and MDA,CFU-S,liver,lung and thymus indexs, and the activity of SOD and GSH-Px.Conclusion lentinan has protective effect on radiation-injured mice.
