Indexer magnetic drilling high accuracy

A system (80) for determining the location of a device that produces a magnetic field having a magnetic and intensities axis vary depending on the lateral distance from the device, the system comprising: a single probe (82) adapted to be affected by and producing a signal based on the field intensity produced by the device to help locate the device; a processor for receiving said signal to determine the field strength affecting said probe; confirmation system to provide physical confirmation that said processor has determined the location of the magnetic axis with said probe; a magnet having a field defining an axis positioned substantially confined in an area such that said probe is operable to be affected by said magnet; characterized by a robot (86); and a control system (94) for controlling said robot, said movable probe by said robot and in response said control system to said processor for controlling said robot to move the probe to simulate an effective plurality of probes locating and moving the single probe (82) and remembering exactly previous locations and field measurements for each of the previous location until said processor has determined the device location.
