Determining the End of Battery Life

The end of battery life is usually determined by a discharge test. For large cells, the size of the test equipment is excessive. A faster procedure requiring less cumbersome equipment is needed. This paper presents data to show that cell capacity can be correlated with cell impedance, which is easier to measure than cell capacity. Techniques for making such measurements on 7,000 Amp-Hour lead-antimony telephone cells, without removal from service, are discussed.
