Immunity and mortality in chickens infected with Mycoplasma gallisepticum: influence of the bursa of Fabricius.

We report here studies of lymphoid-cellular (air-sac lesion) and humoral-immune (agglutinin) reactivities in young adult chickens bursectomized in ovo at two different ages and correlate the findings with their ability to resist challenge with a specific pathogen, Mycoplasma gallisepticum. We also present data on the immunization, with mammalian erythrocytes, of bursectomized and intact chickens against this pathogen.
