An Automatic Self-Scaling Transient Recorder

A problem which all kineticists share is that of recording their data, and importantly nowadays recording it in a form suitable for subsequent computer analysis. This communication reports on an ingenious solution to our own problems of data recording, by building a Transient Recorder around the Motorola M6800 microprocessor. The instrument is capable of recording analogue data in a digitised form on a suitable time-base with no instruction from the operator; of displaying the transient on a screen in a convenient way for visual inspection; and of adding together up to 16 transients for signal averaging before transferring the data to main disc storage of a larger computer.
