Architecture of the environment

Abstract With reference to the “overall change of the environment”, the notions and concepts of Architecture and of Environment are considered separately in order to synthesize them in one single concept: “Architecture Environment”. The generalized idea of the project as the instrument whereby man conserves or modifies his surrounding world by means of building interventions, is taken to come within this “Architecture Environment” unit. The evolution and stability of the idea of architecture is examined in environmental terms and by doing so some relationships between the basically biological (ecological) nature of man's intervention and the artifacts he produces to transform/conserve the world, are established. In this way the concept of generalized “ Conservation ” can be seen as the central one for maintaining the man/environment (cultura!.) balance. Conservative and innovatory interventions in the environment, with a tendency towards transformation and modification but excluding any kind of change alien to such patrimony and resources, have their point of reference in the concepts of “Conservation” and “Existent”.
