A novel driving method based on the integration of pulse transformer for ultra-high voltage input applications

As the demand of ultra-high DC voltage input is increasing recently, this paper proposes a new switched mode power supply with switches connected in series to realize ultra-high input voltage. To make the switches voltage balance, the consistency of multi-switches driving signals is important. In this paper, a novel driving method based on the integration of pulse transformer for ultra-high DC voltage input applications is proposed. It can realize the good consistency of multi-switches driving signals with low cost. And the isolation voltage between main circuit and driving circuit is much higher than the traditional optocoupler driving method. Then, with the use of “displacement capacitor”, it is appropriate for the wide range input applications because the driving voltage is independent with duty cycle. Finally, the proposed converter and driving method are verified and demonstrated through a 60W prototype.
