Prediction of Pressure Impulse to Breakwaters

Using Cooker and Peregrine's (1995) pressure impulse theory, numerical experiments are conducted to predict the breaking wave pressure on the vertical wall of breakwaters. For the case of breaking waves on the vertical wall, numerical solutions of the pressure impulse are verified against analytical solutions. Also, numerical experiments are conducted for the case of breaking waves on real-scaled composite breakwaters. All the results show that the maximum pressure is located just above the mean water level and the pressure decreases rapidly at a point distant from the maximum pressure point. A new theory is suggested and numerical experiments are conducted in order to predict decreased pressure impulses on the breakwaters with armor units.
