Study of ^8Be in the Molecular Orbit Model

In light nuclei the extremely deformed states may have a structure with density localization.° For these states the cluster model2> or the alpha-particle modeP> is certainly suitable. Now it seems interesting to study the difference and connection between the cluster model and the shell (or the Nilsson) model by describing the cluster structure in terms of the singleparticle picture. In this note we will make a HartreeFock study of the 8Be, and investigate whether or not we can obtain such types of the single-particle orbits as to account for the density localization. We will adopt the restricted Hartree-Fock minimization and construct our trial wave functions from the single-particle orbits in the di-spherical potential :4>
