Efficient Power-aware Hybrid Routing using Zoning for Ad Hoc Network

A number of routing protocols have been proposed for mobile ad hoc networks. In this paper we propose a hybrid multiple zoning scheme minimizing the number of route request messages and nodes involved in the route discovery process by applying proactive routing between high power nodes and reactive routing between other nodes. Computer simulation using NS2 reveals that the proposed approach can significantly lower routing overhead compared to previous schemes. Also, the improvement gets more significant as the number of nodes in the network increases.
