DROUGHT EFFECT ON PEST ATTACK IN FIELD CROPS

The paper presents a synthesis regarding the evolution of some pest species, favoured by dry and warm weather in field crops. Data on maize leaf weevil, sunn pest populations, wheat thrips, wheat stem sawflies, some aphids and cicads, ground flea beetle are presented to illustrate the weather influence. The data show the favourable effect of drought on these pests attack. The attack values were increased under conditions of dry and warm weather as compared with conditions of cold and wet weather. To diminish the drought impact on pests attack, satisfactory results were obtained by the application of seed chemical treatment for soil pests and by the application of modern crop technologies for other pests.
