A Dynamic Mapping Application for an ATIS

A dynamic mapping application for an Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) is described. The application requires tracking maintenance vehicles so that paths can be displayed indicating when a road was last serviced (i.e. plowed, salted). A algorithm is presented to track vehicle paths under the following model assumptions: 1) A vehicle's route is dynamic, (i.e. not fixed), and 2) cost and capacity of the system are a function of the sampling rate for finding a vehicle's current location. The objective of the algorithm is to minimize cost while maintaining path building capabilities.
