The adhesion coefficient at the wheel-rail contact is the most important parameter in railway system since it influence the safety, maintenance, and railroad dynamics. Main goal of this study is to compare the estimation accuracy between Polach model and dynamic model developed by the author. A fullscale twin-disc rig is used to test the adhesion coefficient at three different speeds. Empirical dimensionless constant in the dynamic model are found by curve fitting of the measured adhesion coefficient at each speed. Results show that dynamic model can estimate more accurately than Polach model and it can capture the dynamic variance of the adhesion coefficient while Polach model cannot.
