Coordinated Power Modulation in Multiterminal HVDC Systems

A comparison is made between linear decentralized power modulation and centrally coordinated modulation of multiterminal hvdc systems. The centralized method is based on a fast on-line dc load flow solution which recognizes the nonlinearities of converter operation. A computer simulation of an integrated ac/dc power system demonstrates that the centralized approach can utilize dc overload capacity more efficiently than decentralized modulation.
