Publisher Summary
This chapter presents the results of exact time-domain analysis of the switched-mode tuned Class-E power amplifiers with a quarter-wave transmission line. The load-network parameters are derived analytically in the chapter. The ideal collector voltage and current waveforms demonstrate a possibility of 100% efficiency without overlapping each other. In the case of load network with zero series network, the Class-E load network consists of a shunt capacitor, a series inductor, a parallel quarter-wave transmission line connected to a voltage supply, a series L0C0-resonant circuit tuned to the fundamental frequency, and a load resistor. The switched-mode Class-E power amplifiers with a quarter-wave transmission line offer a new challenge for radio frequency (RF) and microwave power amplification providing the high-efficiency and harmonic-suppression operation conditions.
