Control of Binary SRV Distillation Systems: A State-Space Approach

In this paper, we applied the modern control theory to get some insights into the control problem of binary SRV distillation columns based on the perturbed linear state space description. We showed the existence of a constant state feedback matrix and a precompensator matrix, which completely decouple the linear (4x8) input-output system considered in an earlier paperl Furthermore, effect of the feed composition disturbance, but not the feed flow rate disturbance, may be nullified by a portion of this state feedback controller matrix. But to achieve state feedback controller matrix. But to achieve the decoupling every state variable must be measured. In the simulation of binary 10-stage SRV distillation columns, we showed that a low-interaction controller, which also suppresses the feed distdrbaaccs, can be designed by simply eliminating some of the entries in the decoupling controller matrix and designing the precompensator to attain the steady state decoupling.
