Non-universal critical behavior in the planar XY-model with fourth order anisotropy

Abstract We have used a Monte Carlo block distribution method to study the two-dimensional classical XY -model with a fourth-order anisotropy field h 4 . We find that T c varies only slowly with h 4 but that v depends strongly on h 4 .
