Temporal relations in multimedia systems

Abstract Assuring the correct temporal presentation of multimedia objects is called multimedia synchronization. How to specify the temporal relations in multimedia objects is one of the main issues in the research of multimedia synchronization. This paper examines how many and which temporal relations are theoretically possible, and systematically develops a complete set of relevant temporal relations in multimedia systems. On the basis of it, an interval-based generalized synchronization model is presented, which can be used to specify all temporal relations in multimedia systems.
