Distributed Information Management.

L'article depeint la portee et les effets de la gestion de l'information repartie, en evoquant les principaux developpements et experimentations en cours dans le domaine des bibliotheques electroniques, ainsi que les implications culturelles de cette aire de recherche en rapide evolution. Apres une presentation des aspects sociaux et culturels des bibliotheques electroniques, l'article aborde les questions techniques : la recherche dans un systeme reparti mal couple ; l'organisation d'une collection repartie ; l'indexation, la recherche et l'extraction dans des bibliotheques bien couplees, avec des exemples precis ; enfin les difficultes de l'archivage et de la preservation dans un environnement reparti. PURL (Persistent Uniform Resource Locator), RDF (Resource Description Framework), OAI (Open Archives Initiative), FEDORA (Flexible and Extensible Digital Object and Repository Architecture), CORC (Cooperative Online Resource Catalog), NCSTRL (Networked Computer Science Technical Reference Library) etc, sont quelques-uns des projets mentionnes. Cette synthese, bien que non exhaustive, fait apparaitre l'absence de consensus sur la definition et l'organisation de la bibliotheque electronique, et le developpement confus des normes et des pratiques.
