The Nebraska Earth Science Education Network Electronic Communication Project

An electronic communication project, conducted by the Nebraska Earth Science Education Network (NESEN) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was designed to connect geographically distant classrooms to the Internet, provide support for the installation and use of this technology, and provide opportunities for students and teachers to contribute to the Student and Teachers Exchanging Data Information and Ideas (STEDII) project that is a statewide, World-Wide-Web-based, weather-data-collection-and-exchange project. Eight pilot-site schools across Nebraska were provided the necessary support, including electronic connectivity, computers, communication software, and other logistical assistance to enable access to the Internet. Anecdotal information indicates that several fundamental local support issues need to be addressed before Internet-related technology can enhance classroom curriculum.
