Crystal and molecular structure of silver(1,1,2,3,3-pentacyanopropenide)

Abstract The title compound Ag[NCC{C(CN)2}2] (1) is a coordination polymer with a three-dimensional network. Two crystallographically different silver atoms and two 1,1,2,3,3-pentacyanopropenide ions, as well, are found. The coordination spheres of the atoms Ag1 and Ag2 are distorted AgN4 tetrahedra. Both metal atoms are coordinated via end-on nitrile groups of C(CN)2 units and at a time two metal atoms are doubly bridged by C(CN)2 or C(CCN)2 moieties of two tetradentate pentacyanopropenide ions forming 12- or 16-membered rings.
