Extending UPnP/DLNA Feature for Video Sharing Websites

To fulfill both the increasing demand of internet video sharing and interoperability of smart devices, we design and implement a video sharing system that enables DLNA feature for video websites in this paper. In our system, users can easily retrieve internet sharing videos on smart devices while enjoying the interoperability of DLNA. The proposed system consists of DWA (DLNA Web Agent) and MSP (Media Server Proxy). The DWA is implemented in the website to gather video description data and then deliver them to the MSP. The MSP is implemented in the home network to help users retrieve internet videos for smart devices. Our proposed system has been implemented with an embedded platform for MSP and a real video website for DWA to evaluate the feasibility. All the main functions have been examined including discovering DLNA devices, browsing different categories and playing video files.
