Long range active synthetic aperture sonar results

Recent active synthetic aperture sonar results are discussed. Particular emphasis is placed on two low-frequency data sets collected during SWAC 2. With the aid of a prominent point, the full available integration aperture was utilized to achieve 6 m cross-range resolution at 25 km range. In contrast to high-frequency SAS, equivalent sway and yaw of the array dominated the phase errors derived from the prominant point. The implications of these results on automated SAS processing are discussed.
