BACK TO "TRIBAL FIRES"? EXPLICIT AND TACIT KNOWLEDGE, FORMAL AND INFORMAL LEARNING, TOWARDS A NEW LEARNING ECOSYSTEM

The principal aim is to build a framework for understanding dynamics of the learning process at different levels (individuals, organizations, community), occurring through different forms of education and training. Only the co-existence of different types of learning allows the cultivation and diffusion of a meaningful form of knowledge. Assuming that formal learning is a way for transferring explicit knowledge and that informal learning is a way for transferring tacit knowledge, a measurement of the composition of knowledge and its influences on individual earnings and firms’ performance is proposed. The paper is basically divided into two parts: the first illustrates main aims, research questions, key concepts and the framework; the second presents some empirical evidences coming from statistical analysis on the Danish IDA (Integrated Database for Labour Market Research).
