Flexible alternating current electroluminescent display: Study of parameters on light emission

Alternating current electroluminescent (AC-EL) display is a leading-edge technology for flat and flexible large-area light source. The AC-EL display offers high luminance with relatively low power consumption, lightweight, high resolution, good contrast and brightness, and long lifetimes. In this work, a flexible AC-EL display has been fabricated by screen-printing method. The various parameters to affect the efficiency and luminance intensity of the AC-EL have been investigated. The results show that an increase of applied voltage excitation enhances AC-EL illuminance while high excitation frequency plays an important role for high luminescence intensity. The sinusoidal signal drive also offers better illuminance than square wave drive. The relationships of voltage, waveform, and frequency with the light-emitting efficiency have been discussed in more details under systematic experiments.
