An Attempt for Classification of Metal Forming Operations

Summary The significance of establishing classification systems for forming operations is first emphasized. After discussing briefly the advantages and disadvantages of the existing systems, a new tentative classification system is proposed for problem presentation. This system uses uniform division categories that are arranged in the same order for all subgroups of operations. It is constructed with an intention that it will be of use for documentation, suggestion of novel forming methods and design of optimal operational sequences. Finally a case study is made by applying the proposed classification system to some existing operations.
