Symbolic versus Subsymbolic

There are two competing approaches to computational modeling of cognition: the symbolic approach, based on language-like representations, and the subsymbolic (connectionist) approach, inspired by neuroscience. Keywords: physical symbol systems; connectionism; neural networks; representation; computation
