Web Advanced Learning Technologies for Assessment in Mathematics

This document describes the activities undertaken by the ongoing EU project WebALT [1], Web Advanced learning Technologies, to produce a globally web-accessible multi-lingual database of exercises in mathematics. The database is designed to exploit the latest technologies in mathematical content markup and in multilingual online delivery by using a combination of natural language generation and Presentation-MathML rendering from content-markup. The database will contain exercises of various problem types, ranging from simple true-or-false and multiple-choice problems, to problems which are defined algorithmically so as to produce a virtually unlimited number of different instances of the same mathematical exercise.
