Intravenous amnesia in a patient with sickle cell anemia: case report.

On July 27, 1971, an adult Negro patient with severe sickle cell disease was operated on in the outpatient Dental Department of Provident Hospital for multiple extractions under the Intravenous Amnesia technique.' Because of the prevalence of this disease among the world's black population, the anesthetic management and results of this case are being reported since patients of this type are considered poor risks should a sudden lowered oxygen tension trigger a sickling crisis, which could result in death.
