IT resources and sustainable competitive advantage:From the firm resource-based view

This paper reviewed the relationship between information technology(IT) and sustainable competitive advantage from the resource-based view of the firm(RBV).Three kinds of IT resources,i.e.,tangible IT resources, human IT resources and intangible IT resources, and their complementary reactions were explored in detail, and their effects on and contributions to sustained competitive advantage were investigated.Researches show that it requires both considerable time and effort for firms to develop competitive IT resources. These IT resources are difficult to imitate and copy, and have the characteristic of high social complexity; therefore, they are able to form the sources of sustained competitive advantage. This research provides a theoretical basis for further research on the relationship between IT and sustained competitive advantage.
