Shoe/insole Design By Simulating The In-shoePressure Distribution During Walking

A "multiple element model" (MEM) of the foot is presented, based on individually measured stiffness characteristics describing the compliance at the plantar surface of the foot. Together with a MEM of the shoe the model is employed to simulate the in-shoe pressure distribution during walking. Based on the simulation method an iterative procedure is suggested to optimize the sole configuration with respect to a desired pressure distribution. Improved design of orthopaedic footwear can contribute in the treatment of pressure induced diabetic foot problems.
