Universalhärteprüfung : Probleme bei der Vorbereitung einer Vornorm

The universal hardness testing method was developed during the last 20 years and it is now ready for application. The result is now a need of standardization for this test method. First steps were activities of Germany to publish a Technical Report which was published in December 1995 by ISO. Further standardization work was carried out in Federal Republic of Germany with the goal to publish a standard with three parts. This paper deals with the main problems like scope, determination of zero point for the measurement of the indentation depth, test velocity or characterization of materials beyond hardness, and their solution.
