Model formulation of drinking behavior using longitudinal data

We present a novel dynamical systems modeling approach to an intensive longitudinal data set of interand intrapersonal factors in problem drinkers. To our knowledge, there have been no such models developed in this area on the individual level. As a result, considerable effort was required to determine the variables of interest in such a model, possible, if any, relationships between them, and even the timescale on which to observe them. We discuss the construction of an initial mathematical model with the potential to help in understanding the underlying mechanisms responsible for behavior change in problem drinkers.
