Modeling the torque requirement of a blade stirrer in bulk solids

To set granular media in motion inter particular-forces have to be overcome. A discrete particle-particle model was used to calculate the torque in a two blade solid stirrer. In the context of a qualitative parameter study the influence of damping coefficient c, Young's Modulus E, number of particles n and the iteration time t on the moment was studied. The experimental data with glass spheres agrees satisfactorily with the model values.
