In-Beam Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy

Various features and techniques as well as some results in the field of in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy are described. In the first chapter a discussion is made of specific instrumental problems when gamma spectroscopy is performed, on line or in beam. In the second chapter the bases of gamma spectroscopy are discussed to an extent that is adequate for in-beam gamma work. The electromagnetic properties of nuclei relevant to in-beam work are then described. Chapter 4 deals with the mechanisms of nuclear reactions which prepare the gamma-emitting states. Chapters 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 form the main part of the book where various categories of spectroscopy are handled. An additional chapter surveys absorption of photons by nuclei.
