Copyleft: A New Paradigm in Licensing

The ship of copyright was sailing peacefully with constant reformation in form of amendment in the principal law since the 18th century until the not very recent improvement in the technology. With the advent of these technologies the loophole in the continuing system were exposed therefore arose a need for a shift, and hence there was a turnover from the conditional copyright regime to the current unconditional system. With the development of computer and advancements in internet development, new types of digital and literally works fostered and with it developed a new paradigm of sharing these data. The current paper is an attempt to understand the copyleft system in accordance with Indian laws. Because copyleft was founded upon copyright, it will not be surprising that it would inherit some of the problems of copyright. Further we will discuss the limitations faced by the implementation of free licensing in fields other than software.
