The visual perception of depth using electro-optical display systems

Abstract A review of the theory of human depth perception provides the basis for a discussion of the limitations imposed on the perception of the third dimension when viewing images transmitted by electro-optical systems such as television. The problem is explained in terms of the lack of sufficient number and strength of the appropriate visual cues, and possible methods of improving the situation are outlined.
