UWB Microwave Imaging for Early Detection of Breast Cancer

An ultra-wideband (UWB) microwave imaging scheme with separated transmitting and receiving antennas was investigated by using finite difference time domain method (FDTD). The use of separated transmitting and receiving antennas allows to avoid the critical requirment for the reflection of the antenna terminal, as required in the system with duplex UWB antenna. Imaging results by using the confocal imaging algorithm demonstrate the feasibility of the scheme in the detection of early breast cancer of radius smaller than 10mm.
