Intelligent energy management scheme for home area networks using fair emergency demand response programs in smart grids

Smart Grids network in conjunction with incentive based demand response programs have forced the policy makers and power supplying agencies to prioritize initiatives for future developments in a liberalized power market. To fully augment the demand side participation, during emergency or peak hours, has put the wholesale dealers, retailers and utilities in a difficult position. This article provides a complete analysis and modeling of a wide area residential area with fixed and time variant demands. We also introduce the fairness concept in the emergency demand response program for increased customer participation during emergency hours. As the fairness is incorporated by providing attractive packages, the peak demand is reduced and judicially shifted to the off peak periods for an optimal load management. The empirical and theoretical results are matched for intelligent energy management scenario using a MATLAB/Simulink platform.
